About
All our puppies are cared for in a relaxed family environment with the greatest love and respect. This is the exact environment that we aim for our dogs to continue to receive with their new families. With the sad current animal abandonment issues worldwide, we have made it our mission to work towards a solution and not add to the problem.
Our responsible and ethical breeding program involves a thorough match-making process to ensure that no puppies or dogs from us are ever left homeless or given to an unsuitable home. All of the puppies which we breed are placed with families that have met our initial criteria to be eligible for a pup and have then been thoroughly educated by us to ensure that they are ready for cherishing a Sheehans Cobberdog for life.
In the event that one of our chosen families can no longer provide the right environment for their puppy/dog, we promise to take responsibility of the dog in order to ensure it goes into the best possible home that fits it's age and experience.
About the Owners
A little bit of history to start with.......
We, Donal & Lisa Sheehan, have been dog lovers ever since we can remember. Donal grew up in County Wexford, Ireland with his parents who were highly regarded dog breeders. Since Donal and I met in Brisbane during 1997, we have always had pet dogs. We added to the furry family with two humans – Callum and Max who are now 15 and 13.
As modern day life would have it, both our boys have experienced allergies and anxiety issues at points throughout their lives to date. This worrisome experience as parents is what initially lead us to low-shedding, hypoallergenic dog breeds. Once we discovered the Australian Cobberdog breed, it became clear to us that we could help other families like ours by becoming breeders of this wonderful new pure breed dog.
It all became very serendipitous and now here we are with our very own bespoke breeding program designed to fill a need for modern day families whilst enriching our own lives in ways we never thought possible.
Where Our Puppies Live
- Starting when the puppies are first born, they receive their mothers nourishment and love in addition to our constant attention and care.
- This all happens in our purpose built puppy room inside our house that has climate control, ventilation, natural light and all of the supplies and comforts needed by mummy dog and pups. From about 4 weeks of age, weaning occurs which allows mummy to have a little more freedom and energy to start focusing on teaching her pups how to be a "dog".
- Food becomes a big part of the next phase where we start to introduce a nutritious raw diet of quality meat and easily digestible vegetables. We, as humans, at this point start to increase and "normalize" household sounds such as music, laughter, television etc. to help them adapt easily into their family home when the time comes.
- In addition to this we start increasing the amount of human interaction in the way of patting, cuddles and grooming behaviours such as paw & ear handling.
- At about 4 weeks of age, the pups go outside for supervised time to experience new smells, sensations and sounds in our protected puppy garden. We also start to evaluate family placements based on puppy personality and families needs/preferences. This is such a lovely stage because they really start to reveal their personalities and the cuteness is in absolute abundance!
- Between 6 and 9 weeks of age the puppy frolicking continues and we engage them in neural stimulation activities. Before a puppy goes to it's new family, it will be washed and thoroughly cuddled.
We encourage life-long relationships between us and our dog families to help ensure that each family feels supported and capable to care effectively for their new family member.
